Type of Job/Services Completed: Drone Wind Turbine Inspection – Optical and Thermal Imaging
Project Dates
December 2019 – January 2020
About The Project
ABJ deployed its WindVue technology to find both internal and external problems with the WTG blades during winter in Canada. The objective was to understand the effectiveness of WindVue in different temperatures and climates.
ABJ developed its WindVue technology which provided WTG internal and blade inspections to find problems as small as 3mm to 4mm with minimal downtime.
ABJ WindVue technology finds 99% of the problems that are on the internal or external surface of the WTG blades; these problems include…
- The level of definition is 3-4mm
- Increases efficiencies by allowing maintenance crews to quickly identify and act upon critical issues faster
- Customized data processing including volumetric and meter by meter
We were looking for issues including:
- Bad bonding
- Delamination
- Impact of lightning strikes
- Scope of cracks (surface and subsurface)
- Damage of impacts
- End of warranty inspections
- Pre-commission inspections
- Pre-acquisition due diligence
Our Performance
ABJ was able to show the data results despite cold weather. This proved that ABJ’s WindVue technology was effective even in extreme weather. The client positioned this project as an optical inspection while ABJ did both thermal and optical inspection to show the results.
